Murakaza Neza at DED-Rwanda! .

Welcome to the Homepage of the German Development Service in Rwanda!

The German Development Service (DED) is a German governmental development service for personnel co-operation. Since its foundation in 1963, more than 13.000 development workers committed themselves to improve the living conditions in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The DED workers combine their professional and intercultural skills with personal social commitment in order to put democratic principles into practice.

The DED started its Rwanda programme in 1971 and worked especially in the health and natural resource protection sector until 1994. After the genocide, the DED relaunched its activities in 1995 as one of the first bilateral partners, and has since broadend its portfolio. At present, more than 30 development workers implement the DED Rwanda programmes in three focal areas:

  • Democracy, Civil Society and Public Administration
  • Basic Health Services, Reproductive Health and HIV/AIDS Prevention
  • Sustainable Economic Development

In addition, the DED's Civil Peace Service (ZFD) serves as an instrument to support the democracy sector. Since 2007, the Young Volunteers Programme "weltwärts" furthermore complements the DED activities in Rwanda.
